About this class

What to expect in this workshop:

  • Fēst Workshops are the ultimate guided discovery roadmap to help you master your home cooking.
  • One Fēst Chef Instructor will lead the way as you learn how to make a delicious pie. Your Chef Instructor will demonstrate every step of the recipe, with two cameras to give you all the right angles and clear views of what's happening.
  • A Fēst Team Member will answer any questions that come up via the chat box of the video call. You'll prep your ingredients and cook each dish with plenty of guidance.
  • This class is your time to ask your chef questions, ask for feedback, learn a little something and most importantly, have fun!
  • This is a group workshop, we ask that you remain muted throughout the class and submit all of your questions in the chatbox of the video call.

INGREDIENTS YOU'LL NEED:

Shoofly Pie:

  • 1 ½ cups flour
    • Gluten-free substitute: gluten-free 1-to-1 baking flour
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ pound (1 stick) cold unsalted butter
    • Vegan substitute: dairy-free butter for baking
  • ¾ cup molasses
  • ¾ cup boiling water
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 single store-bought crust pie pastry, thawed, or a 9” pie shell
    • Gluten-free substitute: gluten-free pie shell

Bourbon Whipped Cream:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
    • Vegan substitute: coconut cream or full-fat coconut milk, chilled for at least 24 hours before class
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons premium bourbon

EQUIPMENT YOU'LL NEED:

  • measuring cups and spoons
  • cutting boards and sharp knife
  • paper towels
  • oven
  • rolling pin
  • 9-inch pie plate
  • 2 large mixing bowls
  • pastry cutter or food processor or cheese grater or fork
  • spoon
  • medium bowl with a whisk or stand mixer fitted with whisk attachment
  • spatula
