6 Ways to Celebrate Lunar New Year in 2023

Written By: Brit Obenauer

Growing up as an Asian-American in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., it was easy to experience authentic Asian cuisines any night of the week. We had access to China Town in D.C., Korean restaurants sprinkled throughout Northern Virginia, Indian and Pakistani spots in shopping centers in the 'burbs. Always owned and managed by families who had moved to America and set up shop. It was fabulous and I absolutely took it for granted.

I now live in Charleston, South Carolina - not a lot of Asian anything here. Which is making me hungrier for dim sum brunch, boba, sashimi, a bowl of tonkatsu ramen... anything please! This year, I am leaning hard into Chinese Lunar New Year by celebrating via great meals at home.

Join our Chefs this Lunar New Year in our new cooking workshops - you'll connect with your favorite Fēst Chef Instructors and people all over the world, bonus: they are only $5 per household.

Or, explore the Chinese cuisine with a whole meal in our private classes. This is what I'm going to do! I'm spending Lunar New Year, February 1, learning how to make Chinese noodles, dumplings and whole sea bass - just like when I was a kid!
